4G in India

India's NewKarala.com suggests today that India is a major market for WiMax and future 4G technologies, the argument being that such wireless solutions are the only viable way to meet the country's growing demand for Internet access -- a demand which, the article says, "cannot be met by the existing wireline technology."
The article comes on the heels of Indian chipmaker Beceem Communications' recent announcement of its intention to accelerate implementation of WiMax solutions. Beceem's Paul Raj says, "WiMax is the only technology to get into wireless broadband services, and Beceem is the only vendor so far in India to offer this."
Similarly, SiliconIndia notes today that 4G is poised for takeoff, "driven by consumer electronics, digital lifestyles
and convergence applications that bring television onto mobile phones."According to NewKarala, India now has about 40 million people online, with 100 million expected by 2007.
