ABC's David Louie looks at a new solution from AirPatrol Corporation that's designed to detect mobile phones being used to trigger bombs.
"Cell phones are constantly transmitting a signal to stay in touch with the wireless network," Louie writes. "A string of air station boxes can detect and pinpoint the location of switched-on cell phones in places they shouldn't be, such as a checked bag on its way to the cargo hold of an airliner."
The AirPatrol sensor can triangulate the location of a cell phone within 10 feet.
"As with any new technology, there's a risk that terrorists will stop using cell phones as they learn their location can be pinpointed," Louie writes. "That's one of the challenges of fighting terrorism -- staying one step ahead of the bad guys."
Louie seems a little confused about the difference between Wi-Fi and cellular technologies, as he titles the article "Wi-Fi Helping To Fight War On Terror." But that's just a technicality...
The devices are expected to be available next month.
