Alaska Airlines Disses Row 44
Filed in archive Wi-Fi on February 25, 2010
Alaska Airlines has announced plans to launch Gogo in-flight Wi-Fi on all flights, despite having completed testing with competitor Row 44.
"Alaska had begun a test of Row 44's system on one plane about a year ago and announced in April 2009 that it would start deploying Row 44's technology on more planes," writes PCWorld's Stephen Lawson. "It said the tests had been successful. But on Wednesday, the airline said it had chosen Gogo."
"[Because] of the speed at which the Aircell system can be installed, Gogo emerged as the system of choice," writes Gadling's Scott Carmichael.
"Alaska Airlines will charge a base price of $4.95 for the service," writes IntoMobile's James Falconer. "Prices will vary depending on the length of the flight and the device you're using to connect."
