Alltel and JumpTap Announce LG Phone with Dedicated Search Key

RCR Wireless News' Matt Kapko reports that Alltel today announced plans to offer a version of the LG 8600 phone with a dedicated search key, thanks to the company's partnership with mobile search provider JumpTap.

"The dedicated key, which features a magnifying glass search icon, launches an alltel-branded BREW client that enables subscribers to search for content, services and information, according to the companies' announcement," Kapko writes. "The No. 5 carrier hopes the dedicated key will increase the uptake of mobile search and increase content purchases by helping subscribers find what they want quickly and easily."

"The easier it is for subscribers to find the search application, the better the user experience," says JumpTap CEO Dan Olschwang. "From our past experience, we know that simply placing the search box above the fold on a WAP page doubles its usage. Putting it on the handset will multiply that further."
