According to GovTech.net, the city of Anaheim
, California is working with EarthLink to offer a scholarship that will give up to 33 high school students free laptops and two years of free Wi-Fi access.
"The Mayor's TechScholar Program, created by Mayor Curt Pringle during his State of the City address, is open to any college-bound high school sophomore or junior who lives in Anaheim and attends one of the city's 11 high schools," according to the article. "EarthLink is providing the laptops and waiving the students' Wi-Fi service fee. Seattle-based Schtickers.com is donating skins to cover the laptops."
To enter, students have to submit a 500-word essay by June 2nd describing what they would do to "give Anaheim residents more freedom," since Anaheim apparently likes to call itself a "freedom-friendly city." The 33 winners will be chosen based on both merit and need, and will be notified by September 1st.
