In Milan today, Italian designer Giorgio Armani unveiled the giorgio armani
-Samsung luxury mobile phone, saying, "We make as much of a personal statement with the mobile phones that we carry or the televisions we have in our living rooms as we do with the shoes and bags we wear or the furnishings we choose to place in our homes."
The Samsung phone, 9.9 mm thick and the size of a credit card, boasts a 2.6-inch touchscreen with a haptic user interface giving what the company describes as "an immediate mild vibration when [users] touch icons on the display." It's also got a 3-megapixel camera, music player, full Internet browser, Bluetooth headset and microSD memory slot. And, of course, it comes with an Armani leather carrying case.
The phone will be released in Europe in November.
"It sounds like an interesting phone, but the cross-industry deal is not really surprising," writes The Guardian's Jack Schofield. "Samsung's main rival, LG Electronics, has already combined with Prada, another Italian luxury goods designer, for a mobile phone."
