AT&T Prepares for iPhone Competition

Imagine it- you aren't you; you are AT&T Wireless and for the past few years, you've been basking in domestic exclusivity with Apple's immensely popular iPhone. Well that's about to change and suffice it to say, AT&T is less than pleased.
With the first Verizon-compatible iPhone slated for mass production as early as this September, AT&T is rushing to make improvements to its much-criticized network for the looming battle between the two wireless juggernauts.
The company said it plans to spend an additional $2 billion on roll-outs: things like putting in new radio boxes, building more cell towers, and adding new sites in high-density areas like transportation hubs. The goal? Twice the capacity they boasted one year ago.
In the mean time Apple is also developing a new version of the iPhone for AT&T to launch this summer. So far called the iPhone HD, it is set to feature an A4-class chip, a 960 by 640 pixel touch screen display, a front-facing camera and run iPhone OS 4.0 software with third-party multitasking.
