Audi A8 = Wi-Fi Hotspot
Filed in archive Wi-Fi on February 15, 2010
Audi has announced that its Mobile Media Interface (MMI) system, powered by Qualcomm, will soon be available as an option in the Audi A8.
"The technology brings 3G data that will effectively allows the car to act as a mobile hotspot, allowing passengers to connect their Wi-Fi devices to the Internet," writes Mobile Entertainment News' Stuart O'Brien.
"Okay, so you're not going to sit browsing the 'net whilst in the driver seat — that would be more dangerous than using your phone — but the features are somewhat impressive," writes Zath's Rob Nichols. "For example, when you pass a landmark or spot an interesting building, or a historical venue, the navigation system will give the driver the simple option of pulling information from sources such as Wikipedia regarding that spot."
"[The] system will deliver an improved navigation experience backed by real-time data and imagery downloaded over the Intertubes," writes Crave's Rory Reid. "It will also allow connectivity with Google Earth to provide high-resolution, 3D satellite and aerial imagery, as well as a variety of online content, including real-time traffic updates and points of interest."
