Battle Over Free Wi-Fi Continues at Logan Airport

TechWeb's W. David Gardner today picks up on a recent Reuters article noting that FCC chairman Kevin Martin is recommending that a ban against Wi-Fi at Boston's Logan Airport be dropped.
The Massachusetts Port Authority had argued that Wi-Fi hotspots could compromise public safety -- but Farpoint Group analyst Craig Mathias says that's just not possible. "[Wi-Fi] is absolutely not a danger," he says. "If there could be a problem, it would be on the other end."
"We are optimistic that the FCC will confirm Continental's right, consistent with the agency's existing rules, to continue providing free Wi-Fi service to Continental customers at Logan and other airports," says Continental Airlines
spokesman Dave Messing.
The real story here is not that the rules are finally shifting in support of free Wi-Fi, but that it looks like it'll take almost a full year to get this resolved...
