With all the news of strife coming out of Belarus these days, it's nice to be able to note a positive development: at e-belarus.org, Mikhail Doroshevich reports that the country's Ministry of Communications has announced the launch of a wimax test network to check for any possible interference between WiMAX and the established communications networks in the country.
Ericsson supplied the equipment, and Beltelecom is managing the services.
While five other providers have applied to the Ministry of Communications for WiMAX permits, the current plan only allows for Beltelecom's involvement. Once standards-compliant equipment is available, Doroshevich says, WiMAX will be deployed throughout Belarus.
