Wi-Fi Networking News' Glenn Fleishman reports that Boingo has launched an impressively affordable $7.95-a-month VoIP-over-Wi-Fi plan. "The firm had soft-launched this offering before, providing it as an option for Belkin's Skype phone and offering details to the press," he writes. "It's now formally out there as Boingo Mobile -- flat-rate, non-metered, worldwide Wi-Fi phone access."
Still, as PC Magazine's Sascha Segan points out, it's far from perfect. "Boingo is providing the network, not the applications," he writes. "So if you want to make a voice-over-Internet call, you'll still have to pick an existing VoIP program like the thoroughly underwhelming Skype for Windows Mobile."
More here from Wi-Fi Planet ... more here from CNET News ... and Boingo's press release is here.
