Borders Plans Free Wi-Fi in Stores Nationwide
Filed in archive Wi-Fi on September 30, 2009
Borders has announced a partnership with Verizon to offer free Wi-Fi access in bookstores nationwide.
"In the gory, never-ending war for book store supremacy, Borders has just tapped Verizon in order to match Barnes & Noble's summer efforts to bring gratis Wi-Fi to all who enter," writes Engadget's Darren Murph. "Details of the arrangement are scant, but the takeaway is this: in 'virtually all' of its more than 500 stores nationwide, Borders is hooking up with Verizon to bring free internet to anyone who sashays in."
"Borders and Verizon consider the new offering an extension of the service the pair already have in place including network and VoIP support for the stores," writes SlipperyBrick's Shane McGlaun. "The new, free Wi-Fi service... is set to launch in October."
