Cisco and Apple Bury the Hatchet over iPhone

InformationWeek's W. David Gardner reports today that Apple and Cisco have "reached agreement over the rights to use the name iPhone."
Apple's iPhone is a mobile phone with Wi-Fi capability, while Cisco's Linksys-branded iPhone is a Wi-Fi VoIP handset. The terms of the agreement between the companies, though, remain confidential.
"Apple and Cisco had been negotiating for months over the iPhone trademark
prior to Apple's formal introduction of its device on Jan. 9," Gardner writes. "Cisco promptly sued Apple on Jan. 10 over the trademark. The two sides squared off with Apple calling the Cisco suit 'silly' and Cisco continuing to pursue the lawsuit. In accordance with the agreement, all litigation over the trademark has been dropped."
But according to Computerworld's Gregg Keizer, Roger Kay of Endpoint Technologies Associates says Apple is the winner here. "It certainly looks like Cisco gave away the store," Kay says.
More here from Red Herring ... more here from Reuters ... and Apple's press release is here.
