TeleGeography today picks up on a rumor that Clearwire is considering entering the broadband market in Taiwan through a partnership with Pan Overseas. "The pair are working together to secure one of the six regional WiMax licences which are currently up for auction," the article states.
At StreetInsider, Dow Jones agrees, saying an unnamed Pan Overseas official confirmed that the company has been in talks with both Clearwire and Motorola. "Pan Overseas is one of 13 Taiwanese companies that has applied for a WiMax license on the island," the article states. "The government is expected to award six WiMax licenses, each with six-year terms, by the end of July."
