ComScore Sez Consumers Churn for Better Coverage (and Price)

According to a new report by comScore Networks, consumers are "growing ever more attached to their cell phones" -- 14 percent no longer have a landline phone, and 33 percent say they "feel lost" without their mobile phone.

And when consumers switch carriers, they do so largely for better coverage. "Coverage was the most often cited reason among subscribers of each carrier, with the exception of T-Mobile customers, who stated 'lower prices' as their top reason for switching," the research firm states.

Serge Matta, the firm's senior vice president, says that in Terms of usage patterns, consumers are quickly getting comfortable with using their mobile phones for much more than just voice calling. "As rapidly as wireless technologies are evolving, so too are consumers' behavior patterns -- especially in terms of enhanced functionality beyond voice communications," he says. "Non-voice means of wireless communication -- such as text messaging, e-mail instant messaging -- are increasingly important to consumers."

The firm's press release is here.
