Wi-Fi Networking News' Glenn Fleishman picks up on news from the Alaska Journal that a police officer in Anchorage "seized the laptop of a 21-year-old who was using free Wi-Fi from a library after it was closed [while] parked in his car."
Fleishman notes that the guy, Brian Tanner, wasn't arrested, but his computer was seized. "The computer isn't being examined by police; rather, the library's director will be looking into the matter," he writes. "The fellow in question seems only mildly irritated, and neither he nor the police are sure whether he'll be taken to court over the matter."
Tanner's reason for the Internet usage? According to the Alaska Journal, he's a moderator for the online game Conquer Club. "It's pretty addicting," he says.
Fleishman points to a wonderful post by Librarian.net's Jessamyn West that offers some very simple suggestions, including the following: "Library Wi-Fi is normally turned off after hours, but they have been waiting for a technician to 'install a timer' (hint: look for off button, works just as well)."
