EarthLink, the Wi-Fi Revolution, and the Digital Divide

The Daily Advertiser's Arnessa M. Garrett today looks at the TechSouth conference in Lafayette, Louisiana, co-sponsored by EarthLink -- where the company is touting the future of municipal Wi-Fi.
According to EarthLink's janet
West, the "Wi-Fi revolution" is taking over cities nationwide -- with EarthLink's help. West says cities are no longer asking, "Why Wi-Fi?" -- they're now asking, "Why not Wi-Fi?"
"West [says] a wireless network brings many benefits to a city, from advanced public safety applications to universal Internet access," Garrett writes.
Putting the best possible spin on things, West says EarthLink is actively helping to eliminate the digital divide. "We believe in affordable high-speed coverage," West says. "That is the first step to digital inclusion efforts."
