Just as 3Com and 802UK were announcing a campaign against misinformation regarding the dangers of Wi-Fi in schools (see previous post), local councillors in the UK have determined that "wireless Internet technology in schools should be suspended and an 'open and honest debate' on the issue should take place," according to the Tottenham Journal.
The debate focused specifically on Wi-Fi in Muswell Hill's Tetherdown School.
Local anti-Wi-Fi campaigner Sarah Purdy stated in response to the councillors' decision, "I'm pleased. I hope the executive will approve the recommendations and I hope Tetherdown will take note while they can and get some cabling in the school."
"Campaigners cited a recent Panorama programme in which Sir William Stewart, chairman of the Health Protection Agency (HPA), suggested potential health risks should be reviewed," the article states.
Councillor Emma Jones of Bruce Grove instantly won the Silliest Official Statement of the Year award by stating, "I, quite frankly, think we are frying children's brains."
