Fighting 'Wireless Cyber Pirates' in Colorado

Arrgh, matey! SecurityProNews picks up on a report from Colorado's 9News.com entitled 'Authorities Warn of Wireless Cyber Pirates,' which says the Douglas County Sheriff's Department is getting proactive about open wireless networks.
"If someone is driving by on the street, they could easily use your Internet access to commit a crime, whether it's fraudulent credit card transactions or surfing child porn or something else," says Brian Radamacher of the Douglas County Sheriff's Special Investigations Unit.
To prevent this, the Sheriff's Department plans to equip patrol cars with wireless devices to check for open networks, then warn people of potential security risks and hand out brochures with instructions on how to secure wireless networks.
It's nice of them to be providing free computer support and all, but aren't there more important things for them to do?
