Fivefold Increase in Remote Internet Access via Wi-Fi in 2005

Online Media Daily's Mark Walsh reports that a new study from research firm Ipsos Insight says 5 percent of adults in the United States accessed the Web from remote locations like bars, restaurants and airports last year, up from 1 percent in 2004.
The Ipsos study, entitled The Face of the Web 2005, finds that the ability to get online anywhere is spreading much faster in North America than anywhere else in the world.
"This is likely fueled by a growing number of in-home WLANs, the launch of WWANs by wireless service providers, public Wi-Fi hotspots and the continued build-out of municipal
wireless networks available to the public," the firm states.
