Fixed-Mobile Convergence for the BlackBerry
Filed in archive Fixed-Mobile Convergence by jeff goldman on May 10, 2007

InfoWorld's Stephen Lawson looks at Research in Motion's announcement of its Blackberry MVS (Mobile Voice System), "software that makes it easier for employees and IT administrators to keep the workforce connected" by enabling seamless convergence between a BlackBerry device and an office desk
phone.
RIM is demonstrating MVS this week at the Wireless Enterprise Symposium 2007 in Orlando. It will be released later this month as a free software update for RIM servers and BlackBerry devices.
The software comes to RIM by way of its acquisition last year of Ascendant Systems. "The Ascendent Voice Mobility Suite makes cell phones communicate with enterprise PBXs, including both traditional and IP systems," Lawson writes. "This gives employees a single number where they can be reached anywhere because calls can ring on both the desk phone and the cell phone."
