Wi-Fi Planet's Eric Griffith reports today that a deal with FON has allowed Boingo Wireless to more than triple the size of its worldwide hotspot network, from 60,000 to 190,000 locations.
Wi-Fi Networking News' Glenn Fleishman observes that, particularly for mobile users, "This sort of roaming arrangement validates FON's model in a way that nothing to date has seen, because it involves no additional per-session cost."
And as ZDNet's Russell Shaw notes, the losers in this deal are "proprietary Wi-Fi services like T-Mobile that charge you more for a few hours of access than Boingo does for a month."
More here from CNET News ... more here from TechSpot ... more here from VoIP Monitor ... and the press release is here.
