Forget Citywide Wi-Fi: How About Citywide WiMAX?

Filed in archive WiMax/WiBro by jeff goldman on February 14, 2006

TMCnet today says the citylinks of Folsom, California is looking beyond the usual citywide Wi-Fi deployment and examining the possibility of deploying citywide WiMAX instead.

According to the article, a feasibility study commissioned by the city suggests that Folsom could deploy citywide WiMAX as soon as fall of 2007. The idea would be to bathe the entire city in what the study calls a WiMAX "warm zone" of Internet connectivity.

Intel helped pay for the feasibility study, and is donating equipment for a pilot version of the network to be deployed next month.
