Intel and NDS Announce Pay TV Over WiMAX
Filed in archive WiMax/WiBro on May 6, 2006

Heise Online's Craig Morris reports that Intel and the NDS Group, a provider of pay TV technology, have developed a system to offer TV content over fixed WiMAX. The aim is to demonstrate to service providers that WiMAX can be used for pay TV as well as for Broadband Internet access.
"The implementation was developed at Intel's Wireless Competence Center (IWCC) in Kista, Sweden," Morris writes. "This solution offers such WiMAX television services as live TV streams and video on demand (VOD), including an integrated electronic program guide (EPG), on a laptop."
According to PresseBox, Anders Huge of the Wireless Competence Center says, "Demonstrating multicast TV to notebook computers articulates the way forward for mobile computing -- extending the range of services offered by WiMAX to include broadband internet access, VoIP and video."
