TG Daily's Wolfgang Gruener reports that Intel has received FCC clearance for the wireless component of its upcoming Santa Rosa platform
, scheduled for launch in Q2 of 2007. The platform will include the Crestline chipset along with the Wi-Fi Kedron chip, Intel's first to support 802.11n.
"Kedron will succeed the currently shipping Pro/Wireless 3945 ABG Centrino part," Gruener writes. "The new Wi-Fi link, which will be named 4965 when it debuts, will be available in two flavors - an 802.11n-capable AGN model, and a simple AG version that supports 802.11a/b/g only. Intel will integrate the new version in a wide variety of Santa Rosa-based notebooks, which will include Core 2 Duo T7100, T7300, T7500 and T7700 processors as well as the Crestline chipset that will be introduced as Mobile 965 GM (including graphics) and Mobile 965 PM."
Gruener says the combo will first be targeted at enterprise users, while the older 3945 will continue to be part of an entry-level product offering.
Also offered in the Santa Rosa platform, Gruener says, will be the 1965 chipset, a 3G WWAN chip supporting HSDPA.
