iPhone Users Love Wi-Fi

According to a new report from Admob, Inc., 42% percent of the iPhone connections to Admob's advertising partners are being made over Wi-Fi, not cellular networks.

CNET's Marguerite Reardon says it's all about ease of use. "I have Wi-Fi access turned on on my phone," she writes. "Whenever I fire up the browser or download e-mail, a list of available networks pops up. If I'm home or in a network I've already been on, most times the phone will automatically connect via Wi-Fi instead of the 3G network. I don't have to really think about it. It just happens."

On the other hand, "I almost never use the Wi-Fi on my iPhone," writes InformationWeek's Eric Zeman. "The only times I do are when I want to surf from the couch and plan to download some apps or music from the iTunes Store. When I'm out in the world, I rely on AT&T's wireless network to power my mobile Web surfing. It appears I am in the minority."
