JiWire: Hotspot Users Extremely Attractive to Advertisers

JiWire today released its inaugural Mobile Audience Insights Report, which looks at Wi-Fi usage trends and specifically at Wi-Fi hotspot users, who turn out to be "mostly affluent, male, between the ages of 25 and 49, and planning on making a big purchase in the near future," according to the company.
"About 56% of respondents admitted to hitting up cafes more than once per week, and a sizable 46% said that they stayed for one to two hours," writes InformationWeek's Eric Zeman. "According to JiWire, 38% of people are trusting enough to make purchases on the Internet via public Wi-Fi hotspots."
"In addition, the iPhone and iPod touch are hugely popular with the cafe crowd, the report reveals," writes GigaOM's Jennifer Martinez. "The two Apple devices account for a whopping 98 percent of mobile gadgets used in cafes with Wi-Fi. About 54.2 percent and 43.4 percent of people using Wi-Fi in a cafe say they use the iPhone and iPod touch, respectively."
