Kyocera Brings Convergence to CDMA
April 07, 2006

PC Magazine's Sascha Segan looks at Kyocera's demo at CTIA this week of a phone that merges CDMA technology with voice over Wi-Fi.
While UMA merges GSM and Wi-Fi, there's no standard yet for doing the same with CDMA — so Kyocera's demonstration is an impressive one.
Kyocera's plan, according to company spokesman John Chier, is to offer Wi-Fi/CDMA phones based on three different chipsets, allowing them to offer a wide range of device functionality.
"The phones will seamlessly make and receive calls on one number, transitioning between cellular networks and pre-approved Wi-Fi hotspots," Segan writes.
