LiMo Foundation Announces Upcoming Release of Mobile Linux OS

The LiMo Foundation today announced that it will be delivering the Linux-based LiMo Platform for mobile handsets next month. It'll be showcasing the tech next week at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
"The platform is a modular, plug-in-based, hardware-independent architecture built around an open operating system, with a secure runtime environment for support of downloaded applications," explains LinuxInsider's Katherine Noyes.
"Linux was selected as its core technology because of its widespread acceptance, rich functionality and scalability, its record of success in embedded systems and mobile phones, and its potential to easily 'cross-platformize' with other product categories."
"The mobile handset market looks set to be fairly interesting," enthuses TECH.BLORGE.com's Erna Mahyuni. "Will mobile Linux ring the death knell for Windows Mobile? Will Palm completely ditch its namesake OS to come up with their own Linux solution? Questions that the rest of us might probably see answered before the year is even out…"
