London's Unsecured Wireless Networks Put Businesses at Risk

VNUnet's Daniel Thomas reports that the fifth annual Wireless Security Survey of London, commissioned by RSA Security, shows the number of wireless local area networks (WLANs) in the City of London has grown from 1,751 to 2,747 in the past year.
The survey also reports that the percentage of secure wireless networks has increased, but 26 percent of businesses in the City of London still have unsecured wireless networks.
Tim Pickard, RSA's Vice President of International Marketing, says these unsecured networks put confidential and sensitive data at risk. "It could affect company reputation and brand," he says. "Wireless networks could be used for criminal purposes such as distributing pornography or to launch denial of service attacks, and the firm is legally liable."
