Max-Fi vs. WiMax

Dutch company KMC Systems is marketing a long-range Wi-Fi technology called Max-Fi (previously known as InspiAir) as a cheaper alternative to WiMax.
"Max-Fi gear was recently chosen by the Port of Antwerp, which has covered 30 square kilometres
with just 14 access points," writes Techworld's Bryan Betts. "The network, which is currently in test, will support CCTV cameras for harbour control, voice over IP for port operations, and Internet access for visiting ships."
Wi-Fi Net News' Glenn Fleishman isn't buying it. "I express my doubts about the combination of marketing promises, including area covered, low latency, and speed, and the collision of those promises with the laws of physics as well as regulatory issues," he writes.
