Microsoft's Handsets Hit the Scene

We've been hearing rumors about Microsoft's "Project Pink" for months and now it looks like the handsets are a reality with a new name to boot.

Microsoft has unveiled its new family of smartphones aptly named the Kin designed for social networking in attempt to improve its market share currently being dominated by Apple, Research in Motion and Google.

Featuring touch screen displays and slide-out keyboards, the Kin One & Two will be released through Verizon starting in May. One of the big features is a 'Loop' interface that automatically brings together feeds from Facebook, MySpace and Twitter to the home screen

Both boast music players based on Microsoft's Zune software, Wi-Fi access and cameras. The Kin One features a 5.0-megapixel camera and 4GB of storage. The Kin Two has a larger screen and keyboard, 8GB of memory and an 8.0-megapixel camera for shooting high-definition video.

Running Windows Mobile 6.5, oddly enough, unlike most smartphones, the Kins won't have access to Microsoft's Windows Mobile app store to download add-on software programs.

Pricing hasn't been determined at present.
