Motorola Gets Good, Targets RIM BlackBerry

BetaNews' Nate Mook reports that Motorola today purchased Research In Motion competitor Good Technology, putting the company in a strong position to compete with RIM's BlackBerry.
"While Motorola has been working hard to break into the enterprise market, the manufacturer has barely made a dent into the dominance of RIM's ubiquitous BlackBerry," Mook writes. "Good, which is already used by 12,000 companies, could help change that."
Instead of sticking with a hardware platform like the BlackBerry, Good's solution is software-based and can run on handsets from a range of manufacturers, including Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, Palm, HP and HTC.
According to the AP's Dave Carpenter, American Technology Research analyst Albert Lin says the deal is particularly bad news for Palm, noting, "The last thing [Palm needs] is another challenger that is re-energized or has a better balance sheet behind it."
