From MobileWhack -- Nokia just announced its new UMA (universal mobile access) phone, the Nokia 6136, at 3GSM in Barcelona, Spain. As MobileWhack describes it, "The UMA feature in the Nokia 6136 phone lets the subscriber access voice and data services over WLAN, which not only increases availability but reduces operational costs dramatically."
The quadband phone also features dual color displays including a 262k color active matrix main display, a 1.3 megapixel camera with 8x digital zoom, a microSD memory card slot and a built-in stereo FM radio. The phone also includes a DARP (Downlink Advanced Receiver Performance) radio receiver to enhance radio performance.
"By implementing UMA technology into this new device, worldwide quadband GSM coverage is combined with superior indoor
WLAN coverage to create a device that can deliver an easy-to-use, seamless communications experience in virtually any situation," says Nokia Executive Vice President Kai Oistamo.More photos here from MobileBurn, and Nokia's press release is here.
