Oh $#@&%!!! Mobile Phones Cause Sterility!!!

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that cell phones may be tied to male sterility, noting oh-so-delicately that phones are often "used near wrong part of body to cause such harm"...
The research was conducted in Mumbai, India (why in Mumbai, India?) by Dr. Ashok Agarwal of the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Agarwal presented his findings this week in New Orleans at the annual convention of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.
"The more they yakked on a cell phone each day, the lower their fertility -- including a 40 percent drop in sperm production for those who talk on a cell phone more than four hours a day -- though just why isn't clear," the Sun-Times article notes. "Maybe it's the electromagnetic radiation
the devices emit or the heat they generate."
"Men who do not use cell phones averaged sperm counts of 86 million per milliliter with 40 percent normal forms and 68 percent motility, while men who used their phones for more than four hours per day averaged sperm counts of 66 million per milliliter with 21 percent normal forms and 48 percent motility," according to United Press International.
But according to the Daily Telegraph, the University of Sheffield's Dr. Allan Pacey questions the connection. "Maybe people who use a phone for four hours a day spend more time in cars, which could mean there's a heat issue," he says. "It could be they are more stressed, or more sedentary and sit about eating junk food getting fat. Those seem to be better explanations than a phone causing the damage at such a great distance."
