I published an article today at Wi-Fi Planet looking at how companies are clarifying their telework policies in the face of growing concern about swine flu.
Wi-Fi Alliance executive director Edgar Figueroa notes that the advent of 802.11n now makes it possible for a home wireless network to deliver enterprise-level performance, "making it very simple and very comfortable for the telecommuter to work at home very effectively with Wi-Fi." The Wi-Fi Alliance offers a series of tips on securing your wireless network here.
A new report from WorldatWork entitled Telework Trendlines 2009 [PDF file] states that the number of U.S. teleworkers grew by 39 percent over the past two years. The report credits the increase to three key factors: rising fuel and commuting costs, employers' growing awareness of the importance of work-life balance, and "the proliferation of high-speed and wireless Internet access (which has made it both less expensive and more productive to work remotely)."
