Say Hello to Seagate's DAVE

Robert Scoble today looks at Seagate's new DAVE (Digital Audio Video Experience), a pocket-sized black box with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity that holds 10 GB or 20 GB of storage. The idea is to allow mobile phones to connect to DAVE to access stored content. The actual product announcement, Scoble says, won't happen until Thursday.
Although he admits that he's being paid for this plug, Scoble writes, "I can see a whole number of scenarios, particularly for digital photographers, or people who want to carry a lot of stuff around with them in their pockets -- this is far more useful to me than one of those USB memory drives, because I can keep a couple of these in my backpack and get to them via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth."
It's not too clear to me what real value this has, except as a stopgap until mobile phones themselves start holding more and more storage... still, as ZDNet's Matthew Miller points out, the fact that Seagate already has competition does indicate that there's at least some potential market for these thingies...
More here from the::unwired ... more here from Macworld ... and Seagate's press release is here. (Just to be clear: the photo above is of an older Seagate product -- there are no press photos available yet -- but you get the idea...)
