Bridgewater Systems today announced that its equipment has been selected by Russian carrier Scartel to provide a service control solution for mobile WiMax networks in Moscow and st. Petersburg. The networks, to be deployed by the end of 2008, will offer speeds of up to 10 Mbps under the brand name Yota.
"Russia is the leading WiMax market in Europe, and Scartel is in a unique position as it already holds a large number of WiMax licenses across Russia and is the first operator in the region to go to market with a mobile WiMax solution," says Bridgewater managing director Ihsen Fekih. "The deployment will enable strong competitive advantage, providing Scartel with the ability to accelerate and de-risk WiMax service introduction, and to differentiate, with innovative service models such as over-the-air provisioning and casual access."
"Scartel will use the Bridgewater service control solution to support high performance subscriber management functions such as authentication, authorization and accounting (AAA) services," writes TMCnet's Anuradha Shukla. "The solution will also provide a common platform to accelerate the launch of data services over their WiMax network."
