Fixed-Mobile Convergence
by jeff goldman on January 20, 2006

ChannelMinds today picks up on Strategy Analytics' recent study, 'W. European Cellular User Dynamics,' which finds that one in five Western European mobile phone users would consider "cutting the cord," disconnecting their landlines and switching to just using their mobile phones -- and if mobile calls were charged at landline rates, that goes up to two thirds of users.
That's on top of the one fifth of Western European homes that are already "cellular-only."
David Kerr, Strategy Analytics' Vice President of Global Wireless Practice, states in a press release, "Fixed-mobile convergence prospects also look good. We found significant interest in the ability to make mobile calls from home at landline rates, and growing interest in VoIP on cell phones. Convergence players will need to tap into existing VoIP communities, such as Skype, with these users particularly open to lower home cell phone rates, and the ability to access VoIP services via their cell phone."
