The Associated Press is reporting today that a South Korean miner appears to have been killed by an exploding LG mobile phone battery.

"He sustained an injury that is similar to a burn in the left chest and his ribs and spinelinks were broken," says medical examiner Kim Hoon, according to Chosun Ilbo. "It is presumed that pressure caused by the explosion damaged his heart and lungs, leading to his death."

LG issued a statement describing such an explosion as "virtually impossible."
