SpeedRay 3000: The In-Car Hotspot

Today, TMCnet picks up on a recent Chicago Tribune article that looks at the key innovations coming out of CES and MacWorld. Leading the list is RaySat's soon-to-be-released SpeedRay 3000, which uses a 5.7-inch satellite antenna to turn your car into a roving hotspot.
According to the company, the system consists of an outdoor satellite antenna unit, an indoor
antenna, a satellite modem, a Wi-Fi router and a DBS satellite receiver. The Wi-Fi router allows all passengers in the vehicle to share high-speed Internet access.Right now, the SpeedRay 3000 is priced a little prohibitively at $6,995, but that price is inevitably gonna drop fast -- look for something like this to be standard equipment in most cars, I'd say, by the end of the decade at the latest...
