Wireless Weblog sponsor Cognio has released a new white paper by company CTO Neil Diener, entitled 'Ten Myths of Wi-Fi Interference.'
It's an excellent look at the real challenges inherent in deploying and managing a Wi-Fi network. The myths the white paper debunks are as follows:
"The only interference problems are from other 802.11 networks."
"My network seems to be working, so interference must not be a problem."
"I did an RF sweep before deployment, so I found all the interference sources."
"My infrastructure equipment automatically deals with interference."
"I can overcome interference by having a high density of APs."
"I can analyze interference problems with my packet sniffer."
"I have a wireless policy that doesn't allow interfering devices into the premises."
"There is no interference at 5 GHz."
"I'll hire a consultant to solve any inteference problems I run into."
"I give up. RF is too hard for me to understand."
