Sprint and Verizon Ask USITC to Reject Qualcomm Ban

Reuters reports today that Sprint Nextel and Verizon Wireless have asked the U.S. International Trade Commission to reject a Broadcom proposal that the U.S. ban imports of cell phones containing computer chips made by Qualcomm, after a ruling in October of last year found Qualcomm had violated a Broadcom patent.
"Executives with Sprint Nextel and Verizon Wireless told the U.S. International Trade Commission that the proposed patent infringement remedy would hurt their customers and hamper their transition to cutting-edge data services," the article states. "Wireless companies are concerned about an import ban because their telephones use a technology called EV-DO in Qualcomm's chips that enables the phones to access data, music and video services."
