Startup SiBEAM Takes Wraps Off WirelessHD Tech

ExtremeTech's Mark Hachman reports that startup SiBEAM today revealed its new WirelessHD solution, which is designed to "deliver a promised gigabit per second of multimedia content throughout the home, wirelessly."
"SiBEAM's competitive advantage lies in two areas: its high-speed, interference-free frequency band, and its directional technology," Hachman writes. "SiBEAM's technology operates in the 60 GHz or 'millimeter-wave' unlicensed band, with 7 GHz of frequency with which to operate. Depending upon the region of the world, UWB operates from 1.5 to 7.5 GHz, while 802.11n uses the 2.4-GHz band. WiMAX is the only technology that can use a similar 60 GHz band, although it also uses a range down to 10 GHz."
Concurrently, as EE Times' Rick Merritt notes, the WirelessHD Interest Group released its specification for final review.
