Survey Says: Smartphones Gaining Popularity

It's no big secret that smartphones have been steadily increasing in popularity but results of recent surveys have even blown the most optimistic annalists away.
Research firm Strategy Analytics reports that 54 million smartphones were shipped in the first quarter from one year ago, a 50% increase!
Finland's Nokia retains top spot (actually increasing its share to 40 percent from 38.2). Research in Motion, the maker of Blackberry smartphones, slipped slightly to 19.7 percent from 20.3 percent.
The big story of course belongs to Apple with a market share that jumped to 16.4 percent from 10.6 percent a year ago, due to strong sales of the iPhone.
Motorola, which was the second-largest phone maker just six years ago, falls in line behind Apple in fourth spot.
