iAfrica's Nicole Rego reports that Telkom SA has launched its commercial WiMax service in south africa
.
"'Do Broadband Wireless', Telkom's WiMax product suite, will be targeted at customers who do not have access to DSL, thereby complementing Telkom's existing broadband footprint by providing high speed internet access to more people," Rego writes. "Later phases of the WiMax service offerings will include the voice-enabled services to the same market."
Telkom's Godfrey Ntoele says the new offering will greatly expand the company's broadband footprint. "Customers who apply for DSL will be offered Do Broadband Wireless if they reside in an area which is not DSL enabled and that falls within the coverage area of a WiMax base station," he says.
