ElectricNews.net's Maxim Kelly reports today that Ireland's TGT Mobile is "gearing up for a three-pronged assault on the telecoms market with a combined landline, broadband, and mobile phone package."
The company's new TGT Phoenix M1 hybrid phone includes a wireless base station and a mobile camera phone with MP3, FM radio and Wi-Fi functionality.
The final model, Kelly says, will be 4G, with a larger screen than the current prototype, and the ability to connect via satellite, GSM and Wi-Fi for "total coverage."
The phone is expected to launch in early 2007, with the hope of drawing landline users away from Eircom.
"We aim to cut the umbilical cord between Eircom and broadband customers," says TGT Managing Director Gary Keefe.
Keefe says TGT will initially test the solution in Ireland, then go to Britain and take on BT. Hey, it's good to aim high...
