Silicon.com today looks at a report from the UK government's Foresight think tank, entitled Intelligent Infrastructure Futures, which suggests that the transport infrastructure may be completely transformed over the next 50 years thanks to wireless RFID tags.
One possibility, the report suggests, is that people may just give up on transportation altogether and stay in smaller communities. Alternatively (and more attractively), Foresight envisions a Minority Report-like scenario with a wireless "network cloud" using RFID tags, sensors, GPS
and 4G networks to control traffic flow."Artificial control systems, with control algorithms tuned over millions of hours of simulated and real driving, will have the advantage over humans," the report states. "Eventually, we may come to prefer automated rather than human control."
As long as I get to drive in a car as cool as this one, I'm fine with that.
