The Wireless Body Area Network

According to the EE Times, the Belgian independent research organization IMEC has announced the results of its Human++ program, which focuses on "wearable wireless body area networks." The article goes into detail on some of the technology that's been developed, though it doesn't explain what practical applications are likely to present themselves as a result.

Back at IMEC's Human++ web site, though, there are white papers and fact sheets explaining the technology in depth — and there's a description of a prototype wireless EEG-monitoring system (demonstrated by the child in the photo), which calls it "the first step towards a miniature EEG system that can detect and even supress an epileptic seizure."
