Time Warner Brings Free Wi-Fi to NYC

Time Warner Cable has announced the launch of free Wi-Fi hotspots around New York City for its Road Runner broadband customers.
"In order to access a hotspot, customers will need to log in using their Road Runner username and password," writes CNET News' Don Reisinger. "
Subscribers looking to find free hot spots can visit the company's Wi-Fi page to see whether any are nearby."
"The internet-browsing scene has changed a lot in the last few years with many people who are on the move accessing the Internet outside their homes," writes ManhattanStyle's Justin McGuire. "So this latest feature from Times Warner Cable might become attractive to customers as they can both access the Internet in their home as well as in thousands of places in the city, hence cutting down on paying for the Internet while away from home."
"Pretty good value added offering, but I can't say it enough: Wi-Fi isn't free if you're already paying the provider for Internet access," notes GottaBeMobile's Sumocat. "At best, it's an added feature with no added fee: give me Wi-Fi access with a cup of coffee, two different things, it's fair to call that free, but this is like getting 'free' access to a new piece of equipment at the gym where you're a paid member."
